I'm not sure what it is that compels me to make my kid's costume instead of buying them. It just goes against my DIY nature. Also, I'm fairly sure I never had a store bought costume in my lifetime.
So here's the princess dress made entirely out of T-shirts.
So here's the princess dress made entirely out of T-shirts.
Stack of shirts
Yellow shirt, minus sleeves = skirt
very tedious cutting = puffy princess sleeves
shirt and skirt set for maximum playability
Sassy Princess (notice the cape)
T-shirt dress = happy princess

Wow! What an awesome transformation! I'm so glad I saw your link at "Think Pink" on Flamingo Toes. What a wonderfully creative and beautifully executed project! Jenn/Rook No. 17

Thanks to you both for the kind comments. The puff sleeves took some maneuvering. The key is to not panic and play with the fabric until it looks right. I'm working on a few more t-shirt projects so hopefully they'll also be successful.

@Dori-I still haven't learned that Israelis do not appreciate homemade the way I do...I'm impressed there wasn't a princess meltdown when we saw the other princess costumes.
@Marybt- T-shirts are so much less intimidating to destroy than cutting into a yard of fabric, you have to try it out.
@Jill-thanks so much for stopping by, I'm just glad the dress came out as a dress and not a weird square thing with arm holes it can get a bit sketchy before you see the light at the end of the project.
